What causes a toilet to leak from the base when flushing?

Most base leaks when you flush come from a failed wax ring seal between the toilet and the floor flange. A worn tank-to-bowl gasket can also drip during a flush and appear as water at the base.

Quick checks:

  • Put food coloring in the tank. Colored water on the floor indicates a bad tank seal.
  • Put food coloring in the bowl, flush, and wait a few hours. Colored water at the base means the wax ring needs replacement. We service Denver, Highlands Ranch, and nearby areas.
